The New England Patriots Draft So Far (Rounds One Through Three)

The New England Patriots have been the spotlight of the NFL off season this year due to the fact that Tom Brady was a free agent for the first time in his career. As we all know, the six-time Super Bowl champion departed from New England and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In addition to that, Rob Gronkowski came out of retirement and was traded to Tampa Bay by the Patriots to join Tom Brady. Aside from that news, the 2020 NFL Draft for the Patriots could also make headlines. The Patriots were supposed to have the twenty third pick, but instead traded out of the first round. This left fans scratching their heads because quarterback Jordan Love was still available and since Tom Brady is no longer a Patriot, many fans thought they might draft Jordan Love. Today, in day two of the 2020 NFL Draft, Patriots fans were stunned as they selected Kyle Dugger, safety out of division two Lenoir-Rhyne University. Though Lenoir-Rhyne University has a great football program, it was a shocker because no one really knew what to make of it. Looking at Kyle Dugger’s highlight’s, he’s definitely an athlete; however, the Patriots have a decent secondary and the pick didn’t seem logical. Though the pick seemed odd, we’ve seen Bill Belichick draft in the past kind of like drafting a quarterback out of Michigan in the sixth round who ended up being the greatest quarterback of all time. Belichick also brought on Malcolm Butler who make the game winning interception in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015 versus the Seahawks. Bulter was undrafted out of division two West Alabama. For the following picks the Patriots selected Josh Uche, linebacker out of Michigan with the sixtieth overall pick in the second round, Anfernee Jennings, linebacker out of Alabama with the eighty seventh overall pick in the third round, Devin Asiasi, tight end out of UCLA with the ninety first overall pick in the third round, and Dalton Keene, tight end out of Virginia Tech with the one hundred first overall pick in the third round. With uncertainty of who will be starting at quarterback this season, the Patriots certainly made some good selections in the draft so far by adding some big bodies targets at tight end and some key defensive players. Bill Belichick is without a doubt a future hall of famer and though sometimes what he does may seem crazy, there always seems to be a method to the madness.
